Today, a violent scene broke out at the Verkhova Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, as the legal body ratified an extension of the lease of Russia’s Black Sea naval base in Sevastopol (Crimea) for 30 years. The extension was granted after Russia agreed to give Ukraine a 30% discount on Russian gas imports.

Reports state the entire chamber was in chaos, as smoke bombs went off and eggs were being pelted at the Speaker who hid under an umbrella.
